Smells like wood smoke at first, then settles into a definite berry finish that fills a room nicely.
1/8 teaspoon psyllium seed husk fiber
3 teaspoons fluffy rosewood powder, or 1 packed teaspoon.
9 drops raspberry candy flavoring
water
Mix water with other ingredients till a firm but pliable dough forms. It will mostly stick to itself when it's damp enough, but will resemble pastry and come apart in flaky layers. Wrap securely in plastic wrap and leave it sit over night.
The next day, break off pea sized balls and hand roll each to about 2 times the size of commercial stick incense. Then starting with the first rolled, continue shaping till the surface of the stick begins to look smooth.
Dry over night.
The rosewood will not play nicely if you don't let it sit over night. In this mix, to keep the shape of a stick the wood powder needs time to pick up humidity or the dough won't hold shape at all.
If you have alcohol based berry, don't try using it for this recipe. Even though the Lorann has artificial flavor like most berry extracts, propylene glycol evaporates much more slowly than alcohol and and candy flavoring is more concentrated. If you use an extract instead, all you'll get when you light the stick will be the wood, so just leave it out.
Candy flavorings are not essential oils. If you substitute and essential oil, add one drop at a time and stop before the wet mix begin to smell over powering.
No resin or ingredient that acts like one has been added, so this may not work with slow burning additions, but the rosewood seems to work fine with liquid fragrance.
